It's amusing to me that we still continue to have minor linguistic snafus. Take the saying "I lucked out." To me, that means that something good happened. In other words, I was lucky or got all the luck. Australians don't really use the saying but they interpret as bad luck - as in, my luck ran out. My coworker Amy tried to use it the other day: "I really lucked out. I got a speeding ticket on the way to work." It sounds so wrong to me!

    I remember finding that out when I got there and explaining to them how I lucked out on having no one sitting beside me on the plane :)
