It's been two weeks since Jeremy has left. I miss him, but hopefully the time goes quickly. One of my friends just sent her husband off to Afghanistan for 18 months - and she has three kids - so what's a tiny 8 weeks compared to that?
I've settled into a good routine with the housemates. I go to work, hit the gym, come home and we have dinner together (usually different things, but tonight Jason made me steak and veggies! The BBQ is definitely being used!!) and then watch a few shows. They came to trivia with me last week, and will probably go again tomorrow. Scary thing though - Jason heard something outside the house last night and thinks someone was trying to break into the car....AGH. That is pretty anxiety inducing. Apparently he went outside and someone ran away, so with any luck he scared them away for good, but jeez. I *think* we're covered for fire, theft, etc in our insurance and the car is parked right in the driveway and not in the street, so if anything happened hopefully I would at least get a bit of money!! But fingers crossed that nothing actually DOES happen!
So it's baby countdown time for Sean and Loulou. I think she's a week from her due date. Jeremy and I have entered their betting pool - guessing the date, gender, and weight of the baby. I went for Aug 8th, girl, and 8 pounds 2 oz. They are supposed to come to trivia tomorrow so we'll see if they make it!!
Work continues to go pretty well. I think that the schools I go to like me - they seem to, anyway! I don't dread seeing any of the kids on my caseload and am trying to get some of the parents to come to sessions too - parental involvement is always a plus!!
Sounds like thing are going well for Jeremy in Canadia and he'll soon be heading to Athens for six weeks of a slightly more rural experience (although definitely not rural compared to the Queensland outback!!). We've been missing getting in touch the last couple of days, which is irritating and sad!! I'm trying to sort out visa things and the people have contacted me asking for 8 million more documents, YAY, and he has some of them. Ah well, everything should be sorted out soon enough. I hope. Don't want to be deported!!
Alright, it's time for me to curl up in bed with a book and then get a good sleep before my day of work tomorrow. Goodnight!!

Quick post before work
Well, I sent Jeremy off to Canada a week ago and I manage to have kept myself alive so far! Yay me!!
I have two new housemates (a couple from Alberta/Nova Scotia). We are getting along really well. I'm enjoying having them here - they are easy to talk to and it's nice to have the company!! On Sunday we all went out together to "Regional Flavours", an annual event at South Bank which showcases foods and wines from different areas of Queensland. It's totally free and you just wander around the stalls sampling lots of yummy things. I have gone every year but had totally forgotten about it this year until Kayleigh mentioned that her and Jason were going to check it out. I bought a big jar full of garlic (to keep away those pesky vampires), a brownie, and a bottle of wine which is sitting on the rack waiting for a convenient time to be consumed!
I **think** I'm keeping up with SLI stuff at work. I hope I am! My supervisor has been very complimentary lately - she called me specifically to tell me she was impressed with a report I had sent her. This lady is very pedantic and nit-picky and usually only critiques things (but is a good boss and I like her as a person) so it was SHOCKING to get that phone call. All i had to do was spend extra time analyzing the results and hypothesizing about what could have caused them..which is probably good for my professional development anyway!
Alright, it's about the time where I head off, so hope everyone is enjoying the Canadian summer and I'll be back on here soon :)

Well, I've now seen with my own eyes (on Skype) that Jeremy is safe and sound in Ottawa. He Skyped me at 5:30 pm my time (3:30 am Ottawa time...naughty boy). He has already managed to have a BBQ with D'Arcy and his parents and have a boys night at Whispers/Trio. I wish I had that kind of energy after a long flight! Soon, he'll have to get down to work though so he should play while he has the chance.
My friends are already looking after me here. Honestly, I don't think I seem TOO pathetic. Last night I had our long standing Wednesday night trivia with Sean, Louise and Sean's cousin Liam. We tried out the new trivia at the Brewhouse and although we didn't win, it was different and interesting! My wonderful friend Jules has invited me to dinner with her, Bruce and Billy and her brother and his family Friday night. I honestly love Jules and Billy to pieces (and Bruce is pretty cool too) so I am happy to accept any invitation from her :) Jess texted me to see if I want to go to a Tex Mex night at her friend's house on Saturday night. I've met her friend but don't know her very well...but hey, Tex Mex night sounds pretty awesome. Sunday I plan on relaxing but in the evening I hope to catchup with Louise (and maybe Sean) and see a movie (although the movie might not be to Sean's liking!!) Today I was at work early and left late. I worked for 9 hours straight and ate my lunch at the computer. I got a lot done, but all of that was only for ONE kid, which makes me pretty nervous for my other SLI verifications!! I had already written a large part of this student's report and still ended up spending at least 7 hours on him today....eeeeeeek! Talk about time consuming.
Oh yeah, and it looks like I will have a roomie or two for the next little while. An Albertan couple who are here for a year on their working holiday visa. They've decided to base themselves in Brisbane, although he works in some sort of mining related industry and will be away a lot of the time. They seemed really friendly and it will be nice to have some company.
I think Salmon is missing Jeremy already. He's been misbehaving a little bit - had a big fight with Mac this morning and there were tufts of orange fur on the ground :) Hopefully he adapts and starts loving me super a lot!

Term 3 - a speechie's nightmare!
So Term 3 of the school year is a very special term - Speech Language Impairment (SLI) term! It means endless hours of paperwork and chasing up teachers and heads of special education so they will fill in THEIR paperwork. It means getting parents to take their kids in for hearing tests. It means deadlines and rushing and quality assurance and finger crossing that your SLIs will get through, lest the school label you a bad speechie! Urgh.
All of a sudden I feel very stressed for some reason. Dammit!
My week and a bit of vacation was great - very relaxing. Over too soon. Sleeping in is fabulous.
This weekend is the last weekend before Jeremy heads off to Canada for two months for his elective rotation. Just me and the cats left here. Hopefully I can get a housemate in for company (and $$$!) It actually sounds like it will be a pretty busy weekend. I'll be going to an AFL game with Hannah, Alastair, Alastair's mum, and Bruce on Saturday night. I've been dying to go to one, but Jeremy hates it and I didn't know I knew people who were excited about it! Apparently Alastair bought his mum season tickets and now she comes to Brisbane for every game. Hehe. Sunday - Jen, Jess and I are taking Louise for high tea for a "fake" baby shower. She didn't want a big fuss and a lot of her friends are in Canberra so we thought we'd just throw her a little event. High tea is always yummy and it should be lots of fun! Sadly, none of these plans seem to include Jeremy...which wasn't on purpose! We'll have to spend extra time together on Monday and Tuesday to make up for it. And lucky me, I offered to drive him to the airport at ridiculous o'clock on Wednesday morning for his flight out! Oh well, it'll get me into work bright and early!
J's stress levels are slowly decreasing as he ticks boxes for his paeds rotation. Apparently he got a 6 (good mark!) on the presentation he did today, so that made him happy. By Friday, it'll be all done and he can look forward to some new experiences with the Canadian health system!

My awesome brother Ronan sent me a book in the mail a little while ago and for some reason this quote just jumped out at me. (Worth a read, Canadian author). It's so easy to pigeonhole people and be rigid in your views. I'm trying to be a better person, more accepting, less judgmental, not only of other people but of myself as well. We'll see how that goes :p
I made a trip out to the Sunshine Coast today and visited with Jen & Ben (bahaha...yes, seriously) and their little 5 week old baby, Addison. Truthfully...5 week old babies are not that exciting, but she was cute and little and only cried a bunch near the end of the visit. Hahaha. They seem to be coping quite well with the new parent situation, and somehow Jen managed to LOSE 18 kgs during her pregnancy. WTF? Anyway, good for them.
Tonight, Lisa will arrive for another visit, because we're going to Nicole's WEDDING tomorrow! I'm so looking forward to the wedding, and am very happy for Nicole :) I went and helped her tie ribbons of the ceremony programs a couple of nights ago. Regular humanitarian, I am! I think it will be a lovely wedding and due to a booking mishap (fault of the company) she is now having her dinner and reception at one of the poshest hotels in Brisbane! Lah di dah! My biggest problem at the moment is deciding which one of two dresses I will wear...ah, life is difficult!
