Clare Valley

Where does the time go??  I can't believe it's already the end of July - more than halfway through 2013.  We've really been having a great time.

Last weekend, Jess and her boyfriend came for a short 'n sweet visit.  We picked them up Saturday morning at the airport and headed straight to the Clare Valley.  The weather was rather uncooperative - rainy, windy, and chilly (3 degrees is VERY cold to a couple of Queenslanders!) but we made the best of it.

We started off with a wine tasting and absolutely delicious tapas lunch at Mr. Mick's.  Every single dish was tasty, and we were all quite satisfied.  Then it was time for decision making - we had planned on renting bikes and riding down the riesling trail, but didn't want to get soaked.  The rain seemed to be holding off, but looking online at the weather radar there were ominous white swirls in the area.  After some hemming and hawing, we decided to just go ahead and do it!  By this time, it was about 2 pm and we wanted to get back before dark, so we ended up biking to three wineries, and they were all pretty awesome.  There was a little sprinkling of rain, but in the end it was good that we decided to do it the first day, because Sunday was YUCK!  We drove around on Sunday in the icky rainy weather - went to a couple more wineries and then to Burra, a small town about 40 minutes from Clare.  It was here that we found the yummiest Italian restaurant and also a genuine cidery.  All in all, a fun trip that wasn't spoiled by the weather because we didn't LET it spoil our good times!

Here we are, all bundled up - even inside, I could not take my "beanie" off because I knew my hair would be doing something WILD!
