In fact, the whole wedding was awesome - probably my most favourite wedding I've ever attended! I loved that it was exactly what Jen has always said she wanted - a big party where everyone is relaxed and happy. Jen and Chris were official hitched at the registry on the Friday morning before their ceremony, but still wanted to have a public declaration. This is where Jeremy came in, as the celebrant. He was fantastic! Without a huge amount of guidance he put together a script that was meaningful and well thought out. We reviewed it together on the plane, made a few changes, then he did a practise run-through with our friends Alastair and Hannah (who were nice enough to let us crash at their place Friday night). The day of the wedding was quite hot and humid, but everyone was relieved to see the clear blue skies and shining sun, as rain had been predicted all week (luckily it held off until the next day).
I must admit, I did shed a bit of a tear during the vows but otherwise I had a big smile plastered across my face. Afterwards, Jen told Jeremy that what he had put together was absolutely perfect. Following all the serious stuff, we were served delicious entrees (or appetizers, for the North Americans!) Little kebabs with bocconcini/salami/veggies, boneless chicken wings, arancini balls, etc. Jen and Chris are so friggin cool that they hired a pizza company from Byron Bay to drive up to Brisbane with their wood fire pizza oven and we were served pizza for the main course while standing around chatting. There was a 'billiards room' with comfy chairs, a pool table, and a whiskey supply set up in an outdoor nook just outside the main area. The whole thing was magical!
