At a hostel in Fox Glacier - we were stranded here last night due to torrential rains! I don't think our little tent would have held up, especially since the insane wind in Dunedin already broke one of the poles. NZ, you are a wild, magnificent country!!
We are honestly NOT on vacation - this is a whirlwind tour. We've already driven 2000 km in a week...Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown, Fox Glacier...tonight we were supposed to stay at a beautiful looking campsite way up north but Jeremy has assessed the situation and apparently it's going to be too far for the things we're doing tomorrow. Luckily, he found another one that has hot springs!! These campsites are AMAZING. They are Department of Conservation campsites and they range from $5 - $10 per person. You just put the money in a little plastic bag that they provide and into a slot, and the rangers collect it at their leisure. Some of them are really remote and the scenery is unbelivable. The one we were at two nights ago was the most wonderful place EVER!! Right in the middle of the mountains and beside a crystal clear (cold!!) lake, which we obviously had to have two swims in.
Alright, my time on this computer is about to run out. 4 hour drive this morning to get to glow worm caves, then 2 hours to our campsite (cross your fingers the roads aren't flooded, we had a bit of a wild drive yesterday - mountain waterfalls pouring ONTO the road!!)
