Radelaide

We made it!  We have been here since the 5th and are settling in.  We've already managed to score a lot of stuff off Gumtree so our living room is pretty much set up, kitchen is looking good - we're on our way!  This place doesn't have closets, so finding wardrobes/dressers is a top priority.  It's a great house though and we've made some exciting discoveries already, such as the 24 hour Subway a one minute walk  away, bowling alley within walking distance, and a bunch of little shops.  Not to mention, the beach is a 5 minute drive away!

Still waiting to post pictures - we're really getting there but need a few more things!  I'm trying to teach the cats to use a cat door at the moment - there was one already conveniently installed.  They are a bit dumb, but I'm confident that they will work it out.

It's Dr. Jeremy Nichol's first day of work today.  They have orientation until the end of next week and then he will be unleashed into the world of psychiatry, which is his first rotation.  We have two guys staying with us for the moment, who graduated with J and are both at the same hospital as he is.  One is Drew, a guy from Florida who stayed with us for a couple of months at the beginning of 2012.  He is just staying for orientation and then heads out to Kadina for his first rotation (rural GP).  The other one is Will.  I only met him on the day he arrived at our new place.  He's born and bred in Brisbane, but wanted to experience something new and different.  He'll stay for as long as it takes him to settle into the city and find a place in an area he likes.  In the meantime, he'll be paying part of our rent, which is very helpful!  When Drew finishes up his rural rotation, he'll probably come back for awhile too while he looks for a place.  It all seems to be working out quite well.

We were lucky enough to have Brisbane visitors our very first week of living here.  Jen and Chris drove the Great Ocean Rd from Melbourne and ended up in Adelaide a day after we did!  They booked a hotel since we had no idea what our house would be like, but actually ended up staying with us for one of the nights, which was great!  They even helped unpack and set some stuff up, which was quite lovely of them to do on their vacation.  We somehow managed to fit in a visit to the Adelaide Hills to see Hahndorf and a chocolate factory, saw a koala just hanging out in a tree, went and had an amaaaahzing dumpling meal, and checked out the Adelaide German club.  All in all, a successful trip.  We dropped them off at the airport yesterday - bittersweet goodbyes.  I feel like having them here really helped with the transition.

Anyhow, I better go do some useful stuff now!  I'll leave you with a picture of the beach that just happens to be 5 minutes from my house:
