I am definitely not any sort of expert on this subject. I enjoy the taste of a cup of coffee and was drinking it a fair bit last year at work, but it tends to mess with my sleep (which really isn't that great sans caffeine anyway) and makes me feel strange. Anyhow, it's always been a bit funny to watch Canadian coffee addicts try to get their coffee fix in Australia. In North America, we're used to 'drip' coffee, which the Australians think is horrible. However, despite Australia's superior coffee, the Canadians just want what they're used to...you *can* find drip coffee in Australia, but it's a novelty and they look at you like you're crazy for actually requesting it.
Recently, for the first time, I heard a story about an Australian getting coffee in Canada. She was visiting her Canadian boyfriend (who she met in med school in Australia) and was doing some travel on her own because he was working. One day he said to her "Make sure you get a Tim Horton's coffee". So, she dutifully did as he had suggested. Although she was amazed at the low cost, her legitimate initial reaction was to call him and ask "Do you not love me anymore? Why...why would you do this to me???"
There you have it. One of the big cultural differences between us and our lovely Australian friends!
