A couple of times every semester, I spend days toiling with these people, shouting out random words like dysphagia, aphasia, and videofluoroscopy mixed in with 'You can teach that articulatory position using a train as an example: CHOO CHOO, CHOO CHOO!!' We got each other through the toughest exam period I've ever experienced (June 2010) and also managed to keep each other amused through the agony. In the cheerleading outfit, we have Hayley. She's from Vancouver and we are going to open a pirate themed clinic called Hayleana's Awesomeness when we graduate. She is hilarious and we are quite silly together but can also be fairly productive. Behind her is Alastair, the big mouth inquisitive guy in our class (we have two other guys, but they're much much much quieter). He somehow manages to balance speech path with a job as a disabilities aide worker and being an integral part of TWO bands who actually play gigs in Brisbane quite often. Impressive! We had a brief period of not getting along at first, but now we're good buddies. Then there's the crazy girl in the zebra dress. I don't have much to say about her. Continuing clockwise, it's Nicole. I think Nicole is great. She was previously a teacher until the world of speech pathology beckoned to her. She is really really funny, mostly without meaning to be and if I sit beside her in class a laughing fit will usually take place. Last but not least, in the front is Jules! Jules has a great wry/sarcastic sense of humour and is quite smart as well. She is the oldest of the bunch, having worked in England for ten years and then doing a university degree in Linguistics and Psych complete with a 6 month exchange to Chile. She has actually now become an honorary member of study group because she's having a baby in November and so has deferred for a year.
