Fairfield

Let me regale you with stories of our beautiful suburb! Okahy, that's not really going to happen, but I thought I would talk a bit about it since it's been home for almost a year and a half now.

When we were trying to find a place to live, we ideally wanted something that was walking distance to the university, had a grocery store close by, and had decent public transit. We applied for many places, most on the other side of the river but ended up settling here in lovely little Fairfield. Here is what ourbrisbane.com has to say about the suburb we call home:

Welcome to Fairfield

Fairfield is an ideally situated suburb close to the city and river. Its features also include a shopping centre, library and railway station.

The Eleanor Schonell Bridge at neighbouring Dutton Park offers easy bus, bicycle and pedestrian access to St Lucia and the University of Queensland.

Fairfield is also only a short and scenic drive away from the western suburbs such as Indooroopilly.

There's a popular skate park suitable for beginners and experienced skaters at J F O’Grady Memorial Park on the corner of Home and Brougham Streets.

Fairfield is home to the RSPCA Animal Shelter so if you're looking for a pet to share your life be sure to check there, as there are lots of adorable dogs, cats and other little creatures in need of adoption by good owners.

Statistics

Fairfield is roughly 5km from Brisbane’s CBD. Over 40% of households in this area are comprised of couples without children and a further 38% are couples with children. Stand alone house account for 76% of all dwellings in this area, with units accounting for a further 15%. Fairfield is on the river and features many parks and green spaces. The housing styles cover everything from modern brick to weatherboard Queenslanders.

Doesn't that just make you want to hop on a plane and come see our leafy suburb? Fairfield also has some interesting quirks, such as...

1. The Phantom Mower (my term) or the Benevolent Mower (Jeremy's term) Jeremy and I walk across a park then across a busy road to get to the Coles grocery store. Evidently someone who is dissatisfied with the lawn-mowing practices going on at the park takes the same route as us, because every week, this phantom mower mows a fresh walking strip through the grass from one side of the park to the other. It makes a great walking path...but when does this person find the time to sneakily do this??
